Hysteroscopy
During the hysteroscopy, the woman is under anesthesia and with the use of a special camera, the endometrial cavity is entered and checked for various diseases. It is considered the surgery of choice for the treatment of infertility as well as other conditions such as menstrual bleeding, menstrual disorders, etc.
If it is necessary to perform a media intervention using special scissors or diathermy, it is called an invasive hysteroscopy.
Invasive hysteroscopy
It is a modern, safe and rapid method of surgical treatment of benign pathological conditions of the uterine cavity. The required surgical time to perform the operation is significantly shorter than the corresponding time for the same operation with a laparotomy. Also, it is now internationally accepted that pregnancy success rates are significantly higher after invasive hysteroscopy.
Usefulness
In the solution of endometrial adhesions
Endometrial adhesions are responsible for infertility, recurrent miscarriages, secondary amenorrhea, hematoma and oligomenorrhea.
The results of hysteroscopic resolution of endometrial adhesions, in terms of pregnancy success and the return of normal menstruation, are usually excellent.
In cross section of uterine septum
Congenital anomalies of the uterus are not a sure and exclusive factor of infertility, but they may influence the course of the pregnancy.
Creating a single normal cavity after surgery increases pregnancy rates and decreases miscarriage rates.
In the removal of endometrial or cervical polyps
Endometrial polyps vary in shape, size and number and are often accompanied by endometrial hyperplasia, from which they must be differentiated.
In the removal of submucosal fibroids
Submucosal fibroids can cause infertility, while their main symptom is abnormal uterine bleeding. It is generally accepted from studies and meta-analyses, that submucosal fibroids projecting in whole or in part into the endometrial cavity affect pregnancy success rates in IVF and are associated with increased rates of pregnancy loss. For this reason, invasive hysteroscopy is an absolute indication and treatment of choice.
In the removal of foreign bodies
This category includes the removal of a foreign body such as endometrial glomeruli.
All diagnostic as well as invasive hysteroscopies are performed by the doctor himself and in charge of WomanClinic Gynecologist Dr. Ioannis Kalogirou in the collaborating hospitals.
