Urodynamic testing for urinary incontinence in women
What is?
It is a test of choice for urinary incontinence in women to diagnose the type of incontinence they suffer from and to treat accordingly.
How is the urodynamic test done?
The urodynamic test is an examination that is performed at the doctor's office and without the need for anesthesia because it is not a painful examination. It takes about 20 minutes where a small tube (smaller than a catheter) is placed into the bladder and another small tube into the rectum. These 2 tubes are sensors that assess the functionality of the urethra, i.e. how much the woman can hold her urine and what makes her unable to hold it. This is essentially how the diagnosis is made for the type of incontinence the woman is suffering from.
